The Municipal Council is an autonomous community authority, which determines the community development strategy throughout the territory, manages the funds allocated for its implementation and controls all aspects of its implementation.

Elections of municipal councils in Lithuania took place on 3 March 2019.  A new Jurbarkas District Municipal Council was elected.

The council consists of 25 council members (one of them is the mayor of the municipality, directly elected by the electorate)

Jurbarkas District Municipal Council consists of 5 parties and 2 public movements:

Labour Party (1 councillor)

Liberals Movement of the Republic of Lithuania (4 councillors),

Lithuanian Social Democratic Labour Party (1 councillor),

Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (3 councillors),

Lithuanian Peasants and Greens Union (4 councillors),

Party Order and Justice (2 councillors),

Homeland Union - Lithuanian Christian Democrats (5 councillors),

Public Election Committee “For Jurbarkas Region” (2 councillors),

Public Election Committee “K. Šimkus team “For Jurbarkas Region” (2 councillors).

The Mayor of Jurbarkas District Municipal Council is not a party member.

There are 4 committees formed:

Committee on Finance, the Budget and the District Development,

The Control Committee,

Committee on Social Affairs,

Committee on Economic Affairs, Business, Ecology and Rural Affairs.
